Q: How did you go about setting up your business?
I contacted Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce who put me in touch with my mentor Margaret Bull.
Q: What has been your biggest challenge so far with running your own business?
My biggest challenge is not having enough time in the day! I often end up emailing invoices late at night as the operations and the day to day running of the business has taken priority.
Q: How did/have you overcome these challenges?
Managing my time better through allocating specific times in the to complete certain tasks & sticking to them. I have found myself getting quicker which then enables me to spend more time with customers and my family.
Q: What do you love about running your own business?
The flexibility of family/work life, although it has been more in favour of the business with the initial start-up process. I also love talking to customers about their issues on site and coming up with proactive solutions to their problems.
Q: Are there any top tips that you would like to share with others thinking about starting or growing their own business?
You can never eat an Elephant in one go! Take time to break down each task and give each one 100% focus and commitment. If you break everything down into manageable daily tasks it’s not quite as daunting a task as it was at first. Don’t think you can pay yourself straight away, make sure your suppliers and HMRC come first, without them you will have nothing to sell.
Q: Why did you access financial support through CWRT?
It was the same rate with my bank but offered more flexibility for the business and it supports the local business community through re investment.
Q: What support did you receive from CWRT? i.e. did you find the process simple? Were you helped to improve your business plan and financials? Anything else?
Allison and Leah from CWRT were great and guided me through the application process step by step.
Q: How has the loan provided helped you?
When the business started it was an immediate success, it enabled me to take on large jobs straight away without having the need to worry too much about cashflow
Q: Has the loan helped you to create any jobs?
Yes, it has enabled me to employee staff, keeping a lot of repairs in house.
